Microblading vs. Ombré Brows

When it comes to permanent makeup, you’ve probably heard much more about microblading. It’s where a U-shaped blade deposits pigment in the skin, creating hair-like strokes that fill in sparse areas and enhance the overall brow shape.

But popular doesn’t always mean right for everyone. Microblading strokes look best on normal to dry skin with small pores. Oily skin or skin with large pores? Forget it. Those super-fine strokes tend to blur out, often leaving not-so-crisp results. More touch-ups are often required, and repeatedly cutting the skin can lead to scarring. It’s a really tricky procedure that often doesn’t last long for many people, unfortunately.

Ombré brows—also called “ombré powder brows” or “powder brows”—are much more forgiving. A pen-like tattoo machine with a pulsating needle places “pixels” on the skin that mimic brow makeup. The needle only hits the bottom layer of the epidermis, and it deposits pigment more gently than microblading. It’s a better option for nearly all skin types, and when done right, there’s no scarring. Results can last 1-3 years, longer than microblading typically does.

This is all why ombré is my technique of choice. Oily-skin approved!
